Our goal is to reduce the distance between people and the source of their food while rewarding local farmers for their dedication to sustainable agriculture. The Central Valley feeds the world, and The Village Butcher hopes to highlight that bounty, and help bring those ingredients to your table.
Most importantly though, we just want you to enjoy your meal.
Matt is the fourth generation to grow up in Modesto. He attended Johansen, where he participated in FFA, raising hogs and lamb. He went on to Cal Poly, where he earned a degree in Political Science, while still finding time to work at the swine and beef units for “fun”. After working in sales in San Francisco for several years, Matt was ready for a change, and the opportunity came available when his wife’s job required them to move to Denver.
While in Denver, Matt helped open a whole animal butcher shop in The Denver Central Market, where he served as manager for 2 years. Using the knowledge acquired there, and the agricultural bounty that the Central Valley has to offer, Matt hopes to offer the highest quality meat and seafood available to Modesto.
